A Cracked joint requires repairs by welding. The overlay to required diameter is done by using arc spray process.
The solution is done as follows:
After inspection, a drawing is prepared to decide the work procedure. For welding, the job is sent for machining to prepare a proper V groove. At the same time" centres" are cut so that after coating & grinding required coating thickness is achieved with reference to axis. Welding is carried out with Inconel 625 type alloy. Heat input is controlled to 1.2KJ/mm using combination of speed, current & voltage.
The job is sent for regrinding & surface preparation prior to coating. The coating area is grit blasted to a 40 micron profile. The job is then mounted on a lathe while gun is manipulated by tool post. First a bond coat of MCrAlY is applied to a thickness of 150 microns. The subsequent filling is done by T 60 alloy. Finally the job is ground to required dimensions.
